michter’s pays careful attention to the wood used in the construction of our barrels. The barrels being made to our specifications are toasted before charring. Michter’s are entering rye and bourbon into barrels at 103 proof. Are heat cycling rye and bourbon barrels during their aging. Selecting the particular chill filter protocol best suited to each of our whiskeys.

Michters US BourbonMichter’s US1 Bourbon is made from a carefully selected mashbill that features the highest quality American corn. It is then matured to the peak of perfection, with barrels often aging in excess of eight years. Truly “small batch,” each batch of our US1 Bourbon is typically composed of no more than two dozen barrels.

Michters US Sour MashDuring the 1970s and 1980s, Michter’s Original Sour Mash Whiskey was the distillery’s single most popular product. While the “Sour Mash” moniker originated from the whiskey production process of the same name – whereby some previously fermented mash is used as the starter for the new mash to be fermented, much like making sourdough bread – Michter’s Original Sour Mash earned distinction for its unique taste.
